Six NC State Alumni Entrepreneurs Selected for the 2020 Miller Fellowship

Meet the year's Miller Fellows, six May graduates whose startups range from a custom protein shake company to an app that connects people in new places to interpreters. Created in 2014 by Dr. Tom Miller and endowed in his honor in 2017 by a generous group of former students, the program provides access to mentors and industry professionals, continued access to the Entrepreneurship Garage and a monthly stipend.

Honoring the Class of 2020: Jayna Lennon

While serving on Student Government as a first-year senator, Park Scholar and Mathews Medalist Jayna Lennon saw the need for addressing food insecurity. She has served as executive director of Feed the Pack, an organization that addresses food insecurity, and as a mental health ambassador in the campus Counseling Center, challenging mental health stigmas that include those surrounding eating disorders.

Entrepreneur Student Gives Back by Making PPE for Healthcare Workers

Hartley LeRoy has been a fixture in NC State’s Entrepreneurial scene over the past four years. He lived in the Albright Entrepreneurship Village and was a finalist in Entrepalooza’s Minute to Pitch It Competition and the Lulu eGames two years in a row. Now a graduate student in the College of Engineering, he has been granted special permission to work in the Entrepreneurship Garage making face shields for front-line health care workers.

Distinguished Goodnight Award Recipients for 2020 Announced

Seniors Oscar Molina ’T19 and Gracie Hornsby ’20 are the eighth and ninth recipients of the Distinguished Goodnight Award, which is presented at the end of the academic year to the undergraduate Goodnight Scholar who best embodied the core values and mission of the Goodnight Scholars Program during their time at NC State.

Until We Meet Again

Ph.D. graduate Matthew Warren leaves the Prestage Department of Poultry Science with a legacy of nutrition research and peer mentoring at NC State. Though he's preparing for a new role at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he looks forward to crossing paths with his faculty mentors at NC State again.
