Design Camp and TRIO Team to Offer New Opportunities

Two high school students had the extraordinary opportunity to attend this year's Design Camp at NC State's College of Design thanks to assistance from the Marvin and Cindy Malecha Dream Scholarship, established by the dean emeritus of the college and his wife. The students' participation was also part of the first year of a collaboration between the camp and TRIO, a set of nationally funded programs established to help students overcome class, social and cultural barriers to higher education.

College of Design Hosts Annual Sigmon Memorial Scholarship Competition and Award Presentation

The College of Design recently marked the 17th year of the Sigmon Memorial Scholarship Competition and Award presentation sponsored by the North Carolina Masonry Contractors Association (NCMCA). Since 2001, NCMCA has worked in partnership with Distinguished Professor of Architecture Pat Rand and his architectural construction systems students.

Eduardo Catalano Scholarship Smooths Recipient’s Path

As a United States resident through the Temporary Protected Status program, Miguel Castellanos has been unsure of where he’ll be living in 18 months and how he’ll pay for his next semester of school. Thanks to the Eduardo Catalano Architecture Scholarship Endowment, Castaellanos can focus on his master's studies in the College of Design.

Alumna Named Associate Dean at College of Design

Sharon Joines, new associate dean of the College of Design, is a three-time NC State alumna who received her bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate in industrial engineering. As a student, Joines – who has received many honors as a faculty member – was a member of what's now the Caldwell Fellows Program and was a Merit Scholar, a University Scholar and a North Carolina Fellow.

Airport Designs Take Flight in Venice

A group including 11 students and recent graduates from NC State's architecture program were recently in Venice for the Biennale Architettura 2018, an international display of the latest ideas in building innovation and design. The group had the unique chance to display their designs for airports of the future alongside work from some of the biggest names in the industry.
