Three Students Awarded First Angela C. Caraway Scholarships

Starr Gibens, April Gonzalez and Kendall Griffith have been named the inaugural recipients of the newly established Angela C. Caraway and Family Scholarship, which targets first-generation, underresourced and rural-background students. Gibens was among the student speakers at last autumn's Red and White Night.

Armfield Foundation Invests in Pioneer Scholars Program

The Edward M. Armfield Sr. Foundation, based in Greensboro, recently committed $500,000 to the Pioneer Scholarship program at Wilson College of Textiles. The scholarship supports students in North Carolina’s underresourced rural communities, and the first cohort of five Pioneer Scholars matriculates this fall.

An Extraordinary Opportunity in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences

Taylor Rhodes came to NC State as a Spring Connect student and took part in Student Transition Enrollment Advising and Mentoring (STEAM), a program to make higher education more accessible to rural students interested in majors related to agriculture. She then became the first-ever recipient of the Gordon Family Farm-to-Philanthropy Program scholarship established through a transformational gift from alumni Joseph and Deborah Kapp Gordon.

Paying Kindness Forward

As the seventh of nine children, middle grades education major Helena Boehling '21 has had to support herself financially. Receiving the Chuck W. and Nadine P. Edwards Excellence Scholarship for the past two years and the Replogle Family Scholarship during her freshman year has helped ease the financial stress of attending NC State. The support has allowed her to “receive the education I can pay forward to my students in the future.”
