Peter Martorella Fund Helps Social Studies Educators Develop New Skills

The third cohort of teachers who received funding from the Peter H. Martorella Memorial Award Fund graduated this spring from the College of Education’s New Literacies and Global Learning (NLGL) master’s degree program with a concentration in social studies. Named for a former social studies education professor, the Martorella Fund provides small grants to teachers to help offset the costs of graduate school.

Meet Jeyashree Haridoss – Student Ambassador, Entrepreneur and Miller Fellow

Jeyashree Haridoss was inspired to create Sol, an app that connects everyday travelers with an on-demand translator, while studying abroad. Thanks to support from the Miller Fellows program, she'll have the resources needed to continue to work full time on Sol as a recent NC State graduate.

Beyond the Bricks: Impact in (and Outside) the Classroom

The Kenan Fellows Program for Teacher Leadership, now in its 20th year, offers professional-development sessions, an internship and networking opportunities to boost teachers’ performance in the classroom and, in turn, strengthen their communities. Support from individual and corporate partners contributes the program's success.

Six NC State Alumni Entrepreneurs Selected for the 2020 Miller Fellowship

Meet the year's Miller Fellows, six May graduates whose startups range from a custom protein shake company to an app that connects people in new places to interpreters. Created in 2014 by Dr. Tom Miller and endowed in his honor in 2017 by a generous group of former students, the program provides access to mentors and industry professionals, continued access to the Entrepreneurship Garage and a monthly stipend.

Kenan Fellows Program Names 2020-21 Cohort of Teacher Leaders

The Kenan Fellows Program for Teacher Leadership announced the 19 North Carolina public school educators who have been awarded 2020-21 fellowships. The fellowships, which are made possible through private, government and institutional support, provide teachers with the opportunity to work in industry and research settings, then translate their internship experience into an array of instructional resources.

Graduating Senior Moving on to Miller Fellowship

Johnny Davis, who just graduated from the Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, will be hanging around NC State for a while longer. He was recently named a Miller Fellow for the 2020–2021 cohort. For the next six months, Davis and five other fellows will receive a monthly stipend to support them in their startup ventures through the Dr. Thomas Kenan Miller III Fellows Program, which supports recent NC State graduates as they develop into stronger entrepreneurial thinkers and build their ventures in a supportive and engaging peer environment.

In Memoriam: Bob Jordan

Alumnus Bob Jordan, who served North Carolina as a public official and business leader, died earlier this month. Jordan is remembered for his unwavering support of NC State for more than 60 years. He was a member and chair of the university’s Board of Trustees, among other roles, and his service and philanthropy earned him two of NC State's top honors: the Watauga Medal, for service, and the Menscer Cup, for philanthropy.

In Memoriam: Charlie Coe

Charles K. Coe, professor emeritus of public administration and an outstanding member of NC State's faculty for 28 years, passed away Feb. 5. He and his wife Marty felt strongly about supporting faculty research and graduate students. They created a bequest to enhance research within the School of Public and International Affairs.

College of Education Establishes Warfield Fellows in Memory of Chantal Warfield ’19

The NC State College of Education has announced the creation of the Warfield Fellows. This competitive eight-week internship program is supported through memorial contributions and furthers the legacy of Chantal Warfield, a May 2019 graduate who passed away this past October. Warfield was committed to addressing inequities that disproportionately impact low-income, first-generation and underrepresented student populations.
