Textile Sensor Patch, Made with Conductive Yarns, Could Detect Pressure Points for Amputees

A soft, flexible sensor system created with electrically conductive yarns could help map problematic pressure points in the socket of an amputee’s prosthetic limb, researchers from NC State report in a new study. The research team includes Tushar Ghosh, the William A. Klopman Distinguished Professor of Textile Engineering, Chemistry and Science, and Helen Huang, the Jackson Family Distinguished Professor in the UNC/NC State Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering.

Biomass: A Sustainable Energy Source for the Future?

From creating sustainable jet fuel to developing consumer goods such as tissue and hygiene products, NC State’s College of Natural Resources is at the forefront of exploring the opportunities and challenges associated with the use of renewable biomass — plants that take in sunlight and carbon dioxide and make solid materials. Among faculty doing research in this field are Stephen Kelley, the Reuben B. Robertson professor in the Department of Forest Biomaterials, and Richard Venditti, the Elis Signe Olson professor and associate dean of research in the college.
