Introducing the 2026 Class of Textile Pioneer Scholars

The Textile Pioneer Scholarship provides funding for students based in non-metropolitan areas of North Carolina in alignment with NC State’s land-grant mission. As part of the program’s class of 2026, Olivia Masciarelli and Mackenzie Re will receive a minimum of $14,000 a year for four years, as well as $4,000 in enrichment funds that can be used for study abroad or other leadership and growth opportunities.

New Fire Shelter Prototypes Could Buy Time for Wildfire Firefighters

NC State researchers have found that four new designs for shelters to protect firefighters trapped in wildfires could increase survival time inside the shelter compared with the current industry standard. The research team includes Roger Barker, the Burlington Distinguished Professor of Textile Technology and the director of the Textile Protection and Comfort Center.

Telling the Story of Resilience and Determination

On May 26, a memorial display was unveiled to honor distinguished alumnus W. Duke Kimbrell ’49 in the Wilson College of Textiles’ largest gathering space. Kimbrell’s legacy includes 73 students supported through two scholarship funds.

Dr. Prashant Prabhu was recently named the recipient of the 2022 Distinguished Global Alumni Award by NC State’s Office of Global Engagement. The award recognizes Prabhu’s esteemed contributions to his alma mater, success within the sustainable-mobility industry and impact on the world.

Alex Hutchens ’24 is a member of the inaugural cohort of Textile Pioneer Scholars, majoring in fashion and textile management with a concentration in brand management and marketing. Thanks to scholarship support, she’s forging her own path at NC State and at the Wilson College of Textiles.

Private support enabled Lara Rabinowitz ’22 to study on campus and abroad during her time at NC State, all while combining seemingly different majors in seamless ways. Wilson College Equity for Women Award Winners: Past and Present

The Equity for Women Award is given to NC State students, faculty and staff who have helped create opportunities that will assist women in their respective fields. This year, Latasia Priest, director of Alumni Engagement and Strategic Initiatives for the North Carolina Textile Foundation, won the Equity for Women Award in the Staff Category for creating opportunities for women across the university.

Barbara S. Stowe Award Helps Professors Advance Their Careers

Four junior faculty members have won the Barbara S. Stowe Faculty Support Endowment Fund, awarded to junior faculty members or to professors who have been hired by NC State within the last three years. The winners are given $600 to help learn more about their field or network with other professionals or companies.
